Assignment 1: Profile a place

The place I profiled is the Waterlooplein in the center of Amsterdam. The Waterlooplein was build in 1880 and used to a market where Jewish sellers could sell their things. When the second worldwar begun, the market stopped excisting.

But at the end of the second worldwar they rebuild the Waterlooplein, but it never went back to the "Jewish market" it used to be before the war. For a while it was a market where a lot of hippies used to hang out. But nowadays the Waterlooplein is a well known second-hand market.

I live close to the Waterlooplein and visit the market once in a while. I like the laid-back attitude of people on the market. Besides that, there are some really cool graffiti pieces there. The Waterlooplein used to be famous for it (for those who are interested, check out the book "Amsterdam Graffiti : the Battle of Waterloo") On the picture on the left you see a piece of art that's on the Waterlooplein.
